For the first time in quite a while, there are some flights from Toronto to cities in Australia for under $1000 roundtrip, on a few different airlines, including Delta, Virgin Australia, United Airlines, and Qantas.
The flights have 1 stop each way, in Los Angeles.
You can also turn these into 2-in-1 trips and visit both Australia and Los Angeles, for under $1000.
You can also look at flying into one Australian city, but home from another, and keep the price the same.

How to find and book this deal
1. Try a Google Flights search like this one...
Google Flights: Toronto to Sydney, Australia (SYD)
Google Flights: Toronto to Brisbane, Australia (BNE)
Google Flights: Toronto to Melbourne, Australia (MEL)
- click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view and browse for cheap date combinations
- look for the dates that are somewhere between $1054 and $1070 roundtrip.
2. Go to Momondo or Skyscanner
- search for a flight from Toronto (YYZ) to...
Sydney (SYD)
or
Brisbane (BNE)
or
Melbourne (MEL)
- use the same dates you found on Google Flights

You can also turn these into 2-in-1 trips, and visit both Australia *and* Los Angeles, for the same price
1. First, try finding a normal roundtrip flight to Australia, using the Google Flights links above.
For example, let's say you found a flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Sydney (SYD), from Oct 16 to Oct 30.
2. Now go to Momondo
- Change the search type to 'Multi City' (not available on the mobile site)
3. Search for a flight like this one:
Toronto (YYZ) to Sydney (SYD)
Sydney (SYD) to Los Angeles (LAX)
Los Angeles (LAX) to Toronto (YYZ)
- For the first and last legs of the journey, use the dates from the normal roundtrip flight that you found on Google Flights.
- You can play around with the middle date to give yourself more or less time in Sydney vs Los Angeles.
For example, here is a screenshot from Momondo of Oct 16 to Oct 25 to Oct 30.
You can also try San Francisco instead of Los Angeles (although it may bump up the price by about $100).
You can also look at flying into one Australian city, but home from another, and keep the price the same
Brisbane (BNE) to Toronto (YYZ)
- Try the dates from the normal roundtrip flight that you found on Google Flights.
For example, here is a screenshot from Momondo of Oct 16 Oct 30.
You'll notice the flight from Sydney (SYD) to Brisbane (BNE) is not included.
You can try a multi-city search on Momondo that includes the flight between the two Australian cities. It may only bump up the price by a little bit.
For example:
Toronto (YYZ) to Sydney (SYD)
Sydney (SYD) to Brisbane (BNE)
Brisbane (BNE) to Toronto (YYZ)

Hi Chris,
Thanks for sharing this! Wondering if these prices come up time to time? or I should be rushing to book it for November right now?
I am trying to use the combinations you have suggested. Wondering if you were able to find something good for multi cities in Australia.
YYZ- Sydney
Sydney- Melbourne
Melbourne- Brisbane
Brisbane- YYZ
I am getting a price for all this as $1206 all in.
Anything cheaper than this for dates: November 1-November 23 (dates flexible -/+ 1-2 days
Please let me know!
Thanks.
Hi Tanya
It has been my experience that you have to jump on these deals asap when they are presented.
Almost two years ago my wife & I got return, all in flights to Tokyo, Osaka and Beijing through San Francisco for $1084 for the two of us. You can play around with the dates and stop overs available. I think Hong Kong is a great lay over for a week if you have time. Good Luck
Hi Tanya,
September of 2017 was the last time flights to Australia went under $1000 roundtrip. It's happened about twice per year in the last few years.
I took a look, and was able to find the following multi-city trip for $1134 CAD all in...
Toronto (YYZ) to Sydney (SYD)
Sydney (SYD) to Melbourne (MEL)
Melbourne (MEL) to Brisbane (BNE)
Brisbane (BNE) to Toronto (YYZ)
The dates used were:
Oct 31 to Nov 7 to Nov 14 to Nov 21
So I would say somewhere in that range, $1100-$1200 is the lowest available price for a 3-in-1 trip like that.
Hello Chris!
Thank you so very much for this amazing tip on Australian flights! My father and all that side of the family live there. I just booked myself and my fiance for our honeymoon! Much appreciated! Keep up the great work you are doing.
Thanks Tanya, no problem, I'm glad it helped. Have a great honeymoon!
Does anyone know if this type of deal is ever around April time?
What would be the cheapest way to fly to Sydney in April?
Thanks
Sara: In September of 2017, Qantas dropped the price of their February, March, April, and May 2018 flights to Australia down to a similar price level.
