Hamilton to Iceland and other European destinations on PLAY - ~$450 to $620 CAD roundtrip

Iceland

PLAY Airlines has announced that their first route from Canada will be from Hamilton to Reykjavik, Iceland.

You may recall the now defunct WOW Air, the low cost airline that used to operate between Toronto and Iceland. PLAY is essentially the same model.

The flights are scheduled to start on June 22nd.

Base fares currently start at $371 CAD roundtrip for travel in January/February 2024. October 2023 flights are $464 roundtrip. Summer flights aren't cheap.

The base fare only includes a small personal item.

Carry-on bags are $105 roundtrip.

Checked bags are $122 roundtrip.

Seat selection is $16 to $80 roundtrip.

So yeah, watch all those fees before deciding if it's a good deal. The most direct comparison would be to Icelandair's Toronto-Reykjavik flights, which are currently priced in the high $600s to low $700s roundtrip with carry-on.

Connecting flights to other places in Europe

You can also find flights from Hamilton to 32 different destinations in Europe, with 1 stop in Reykjavik each way.

You can find base fares from Hamilton to Europe in the mid-$400s roundtrip, mainly between September 2023 and February 2024.

But the bag fees for connecting flights to Europe are higher ($150-$170 roundtrip for carry-on, and $200-$230 roundtrip for a checked bag).

So realistically, it's around $600-$620 roundtrip for a 1-stop flight to Europe with carry-on. Not an amazing price, but it can be $200-$400 cheaper than other airlines, depending on the destination.

I don't think seat selection is mandatory. Just booked through play to KEF in September and did not make any seat selection.
