Toronto to Lisbon, Portugal - $451 to $474 CAD roundtrip including taxes (add London for free)

Lisbon, Portugal

British Airways has dropped the price of their flights from Toronto to Lisbon, Portugal down to between $451 and $474 CAD roundtrip including taxes.

The flights have 1 stop in London (Heathrow) or Philadelphia each way.

You can also turn these into a 2-in-1 Multi City trip and visit both London *and* Lisbon for a similar roundtrip price (keep scrolling down for more info).

Just a heads up that entry to the United Kingdom now requires a Canadian to have an eTA, which costs 10 pounds and is valid for 2 years. BUT if you are just in transit (connecting) through the United Kingdom you do not need an ETA. Also note that on April 9th the UK government is raising the price of the eTA to 16 pounds.

How to find and book this deal

1. Start with the following Google Flights search:

Google Flights: Toronto to Lisbon, Portugal

- Click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view.

- Browse for the cheapest dates by adjusting the trip length at the bottom.

- Look for the dates that are $459-$472 roundtrip.

IMPORTANT: When you're clicking through on Google Flights, and you get to the last page and suddenly see the price jump up to $806, *in some cases* you may need to keep scrolling down to the 'Book with American' button below. You should see a price like $459 or $472 beside the button.

I've also been noticing a lot of price jumps with these flights. Google Flights will sometimes show $472 at first, but then the price jumps up to $661 on the following pages and you can't find it for $472 no matter what you do. It's best to try different dates with some trial and error. Or you may want to try those dates on the search engines below as the results can be different.

[Remaining Dates]

Nov 11 to Nov 27
Nov 12 to Nov 27
Nov 13 to Nov 27
Nov 14 to Nov 27

Nov 15 to Nov 27
Nov 16 to Nov 27
Nov 17 to Nov 27

Nov 18 to Nov 27
Nov 19 to Nov 27
Nov 20 to Nov 27

(NOTE: It's fairly likely British Airways will release some more cheap ones from time to time. At least, that's what happened last time. I will keep this post updated with any new dates I've seen).

2. Go to FlightHub or Kayak or Skyscanner

- Try the same dates you found on Google Flights.

You can also turn these into a 2-in-1 trip and visit both London *and* Lisbon for $462 roundtrip

1. Start with the following Google Flights Multi City search:

Google Flights: Toronto to London and then to Lisbon and then back to Toronto

Toronto (YYZ) to London (LHR)
London (LHR) to Lisbon (LIS)
Lisbon (LIS) to Toronto (YYZ)

2. Try using dates that are similar to the roundtrip dates you found on Google Flights above.

For example, if you found a cheap roundtrip flight from October 26 to November 7, try starting with...

October 26 to October 28 to November 7

You may need to keep the London and Lisbon flights within 2 days of each other for the price to remain low.

Chris, just a heads up. I travelled through Heathrow in January and was in transit. I required an ETA even in transit.

    Hi Sonali,

Thanks for the info. Was that before January 20th though?

On January 8th the UK government started out by requiring everyone (including those in transit) to have the ETA.

But then the airlines started pressuring them to drop the requirement for passengers in transit. So on January 20th the UK government dropped the requirement for passengers in transit.

You may have been in that January 8th to 20th window where it was a requirement for those in transit.

I think April, May, June dates are not currently available for Multi City. November has the most working dates (the dates in the example link are pointing to some working November dates).

Some more working example November dates:

Oct 25 to Oct 27 to Nov 4
Oct 26 to Oct 28 to Nov 5
    Oct 27 to Oct 29 to Nov6

Nov 1 to Nov 3 to Nov 11
Nov 2 to Nov 4 to Nov 12
Nov 3 to Nov 5 to Nov 13
    etc, etc, etc
Nov 17 to Nov 19 to Nov 27

We just booked for Oct 31 departure and Nov 12 return. $940 for two, and stopovers in London, instead of Philadelphia in many of the other flight options. I noticed over the past couple of weeks that the lower priced flights are starting to disappear.

Has anyone had any bad experiences booking a ticket from one airlines on another airlines website? I am apprehensive to book a BA ticket on an AA website. Let me know your experiences :)

It's pretty common to book codeshared flights (flights where one airline sells the ticket, but a different airline operates the flight). WestJet's flights can be booked through Delta's website and vice versa. Air Canada's flights can be booked through United's website and vice versa. And most recently, Air Transat and Porter.

The British Airways and American Airlines codeshare is one of the most common out there and has been around for a long time (over 20 years, since 2002).

So they have a pretty close partnership and most travellers wouldn't really notice much difference between booking on the BA website versus the AA website or vice versa.

AA is the one selling the ticket so they are responsible for the support if someone needs help. And one would like to think that being partners for over 20 years they would have most support issues sorted out, but I guess you just never know with airlines.

Perhaps the most common issue with codeshared flights is when you get into things such as earnings with loyalty programs. Sometimes airlines will have rules about how much you can earn if the ticket was booked through one of their partner airlines.

In the case of BA and AA, I think at this point they're pretty identical in terms of how much one earns for most flights, no matter who sold the ticket.

I've also read that tickets sold through AA may not receive the 'cash upgrade offers' from BA.
